A Little about Me, and How I got Here

Hiya!  I'm Carolyn, as you may or may not know.  I'm a smart, sarcastic, random, loud, outgoing, girl . . . quite a bit like most of my awkward siblings.  Uh, about me.  Right.  Okay.  I am a dancer, actress, author {but it's difficult to do so when your ADHD and Dyslexic}, I'm smart {uh, for a demi-god}. Well, let's hear my story!

{^That's my name in Greek!  It's my page/paragraph/new part breaker.}

So, it was a normal day at my school, and since I can't share where I live right now because this is online, I'll just say it was a normal day at school.  The thing is, I don't exactly "fit in" at school.  Honestly, I don't fit in ANYWHERE, so it's not all that terrible.  I did so happen to have one friend, though.  His name's Aaron, and he's pretty abnormal.  He's short.  He has curly hair and ALWAYS wears a hat.  He's excused from PE {lucky him} for a medical condition with his legs.  He looks older than everyone in the whole grade, but oh well.  At least HE can understand me!

I was walking down the halls and walked slowly in to history class.  History happened to be my favorite, I loved learning about the world before us, especially Greece and anything to do with Greek myths.  Although it was my favorite class, my least favorite person on the face of the earth so happened to be in that class.  Her name was Ginny, and she was . . . odd.  She looked pretty one moment, scary the next.  I didn't really understand her.  She hated my guts, I hated hers, and she tormented me.  Every.Single.Day.

I plopped down in the front seat and tried to concentrate on the white board.  Being dyslexic really stinks sometimes.  The words swam around the board, making me upset.  Aaron sat down next to me.

"Hey, Carolyn!" he said, a smile on his face.

I turned my head.  "Hiya!"  Then I swished my head {almost hitting Aaron with my hair, may I add} back to the board and squinted.  "Being dyslexic is dreadful."  I sighed.

  "I understand." He nodded.

"Thanks," I sighed. "But you don't.  You can read perfectly well.  You could write.  My stories are imprinted in my mind perfectly, almost all of the information I've ever learned in history is definitely there, but I try to put anything on paper and I can't even utter a few words!"

Aaron patted my back.  "It'll get better."

Ginny walked in, her perfect blond hair swishing back and forth.

"Hey, Aaron!" she said, giggling. "Can I sit by you?"  Aaron smiled.

I took out my pencil and stabbed him.  "DON'T FALL FOR IT." I whispered, harshly loud.

Aaron turned his head away, but Ginny kept talking.

"Please, Aaron?" She batted her perfectly long, but still caked with mascara, eye lashes.  "I'll sit by you at lunch.  Just scoot over one little seat and let me sit between you and Carolyn, okay?" She began bringing her books in a small space between Aaron and I.

  "No." I glared at her.

"Now, really, Carol?  Why are you doing this?  I'm trying to be nice to you and your friend Aaron here!" she gave a sticky-sweet smile to Aaron.

"It's Carolyn," I spat.  "And just leave us alone, you're just trying to take Aaron away from me."

"Really?" she said, gritting her teeth.  "Well, let's see what I think about that!"

All of a sudden, a pretty girl wasn't standing in front of me, it was a full out BEAST.  I screeched.

  "AARON!" I yelled.  "HELP!"

He gasped.  "No way . . . not now!"

All of a sudden, a pegasus {which was BEAUTIFUL, might I add, but at the moment, I was just STUNNED} broke through the window with a boy on it.  He quickly drew a pen, which grew in to a sword {which was crazy awesome!}, and slashed at the beast.  All of a sudden, it disintegrated.

"Oh . . . my gosh." I said, my eyes wide.  "THAT WAS SO AWESOME!"

The class was in disarray, running around, screaming.  The boy smiled, and Aaron patted him on the back.

"Okay," the boy said. "We better get going now, before you're in trouble . . . " He looked at Aaron.

  "Carolyn." Aaron stated.

  "Carolyn!" The boy smiled.

Then Aaron and the boy whisked me off, out of the window, where another pegasus came to us.  The boy started talking to them.

"Yes, Blackjack, she'll be riding on you.  Be nice.  No!"

I laughed, but held it back, my hand covering my mouth.  "What the heck?" I whispered to Aaron.

"Eh, he can talk to horses," he began, shrugging. "No big deal."

"Yeah!" I said, laughing again, feeling crazy.  "NO BIG DEAL!"

Then I went on the pegasus that the boy called 'Blackjack' and rode off to somewhere else.

"I never caught your name." I said, facing the boy with black hair and green eyes.

"Percy." He smiled, his green eyes twinkling.

"Okay.  Where am I going, exactly, and why can I ride on this MARVELOUS pegasus?" I asked, stroking Blackjack's mane.  "I thought it was all myths!"

"Well," Aaron began. "It's NOT a myth.  All those 'myths' you love reading about?  Well, those are real.  The gods, the monsters (like Ginny), everything!"

I could tell my eyes were huge.  "Seriously?" I barely uttered.

  "Uh-huh!" Percy said, laughing.

"No stinking way!" I said, smiling.

  "Yes stinking way!" Aaron replied.

"Well, that's great.  Fantastic!"  I said.  "But I'm really, REALLY, REALLY, confused."

"That's understandable." Percy nodded.  "We'll get you back to camp soon, and everything will work out.

After hours of riding (well, flying?), we landed in some place called Long Island.  There was a hill, and on the top was a pine tree and a dragon guarding it.  I smiled, but it was SO hard to believe.

"Is this a dream?" I said.  "A joke?"

"Nope.  This is very much real." Percy said, nodding.

"I don't get it." I said, probably sounding REALLY stupid.

"Well, let's go and meet Chiron, he'll talk to you," Percy said, acting as if it wasn't queer at all.  "Welcome to Camp Half-Blood!"
