I Take An Unexpected Dip

I'm Iona, I will be twelve in one week and I am only about four foot five. I have light brown hair with golden highlights that reaches my mid-back and green eyes. I have ADHD and dyslexia (which mixed together is not very pleasant at all). I flunked school 7 times, so now I'm at home doing school. I think that's all about me, oh, except one crucial fact. I'm a half-blood. I only figured it out well, yesterday. On my twelfth birthday.

I sat in the car with my brothers, Gabriel and Toby, and my mom. My cousin, Madeline came along as well. My family was visiting California for a few weeks, and we decided to go to a really nice lake. As we headed up the mountain, my gut told me to turn around. I didn't say anything, because of course, my mom would think I was insane. The pain worsened as we trudged higher. When we arrived it was almost unbearable but all the sudden, it stopped. I breathed a sigh of relief and hopped out of the car with the rest of the family. We took a short hike to the lake, found a nice spot in the shade, and laid our towels down. The water was my favorite place to be. I jumped into the icy water. I dove to the bottom and swam around, scattering the fish. The water felt like home in my eyes. I felt stronger with each stroke of my arms. I rocketed to the surface. Madeline looked at me like I was a freak.
"What?" I asked her.
"You were under there for over a minute," She gaped.
"I was?" I shook my head in disbelief.
She nodded vigorously, her freckles bouncing on her nose. I always thought Madeline was pretty. She had piercing, blue eyes and dark brown hair.
"Swim with me," I said to her.
She sighed, but swam over to me. We were swimming deeper into the water, when I spotted a huge rock in the water.
"Wanna jump off of it?" I asked Madeline, climbing up the mount in the water that towered over us.
"I don't think we should." She said, nervously.
"It will be fun!" I said.
Just after I finished my words something lunged onto my back, making me topple into the water. I screamed as the water crashed onto my body. I managed to open my eyes under water. Everything was blurry at first, but to my surprise, my vision cleared up pretty quickly. I threw whatever was on me onto the lake floor. It looked like a girl, but I looked closer, and realized it had fangs. I was a huge fan of greek mythology so I knew exactly what these were. Empousa. Wait, isn't greek mythology, well...a myth? I bobbed at the top of the water, just long enough to see a boy on a pegasus. He was grabbing Madeline, who lay limp in his grasp.
"Let...Me...Go," I gasped out.
The empousa held my neck, not even loosening a little bit for my sake. The boy turned and saw my struggling. He slashed the empousa with a sword and it disintegrated. I couldn't swim, I felt weak. The last thing I saw was the boy reaching for my hand.

*Sorry it's short I will post more very soon.
**What do you all think?
